A Fetter, a Fountain, and a Funeral
This powerful teaching takes us on a journey through Mark chapter 5, where we encounter three impossible situations that reveal one undeniable truth: Jesus is Lord over everything. We meet a man tormented by demons, living among tombs with chains that couldn't hold him—representing the fetters that bind us. We witness a woman who suffered for twelve years with an issue of blood, spending everything she had on doctors who couldn't heal her—symbolizing the fountains of problems that drain our resources and isolate us. Finally, we enter a home where a little girl has died, and mourners have given up hope—depicting the funerals of our dead dreams and situations we've buried. What's remarkable is how Jesus doesn't just observe these crises from a distance; He steps into the graveyard, stops in the crowd, and walks into the house of mourning. The progression is intentional: from the deranged to the desperate to the dead, Jesus demonstrates that no situation is beyond His authority. The woman's desperate faith—reaching just for the hem of His garment—reminds us that even mustard-seed faith can access miraculous power. Most encouraging is the truth that delay doesn't cancel deliverance. When Jesus arrived late to Jairus's house and everyone said it was too late, He proved that what we've declared dead can still come alive. This isn't just ancient history; it's a present reality for whatever chains bind us, whatever has been draining us for years, and whatever we've given up as dead.
